LosslessCut video editing is fast, free and — of course — lossless

2026-01-25 05:02:41

From Six Colors comes a reminder that you can do a ton of video editing with the free and open source app, LosslessCut.

It’s basically a graphical interface that saves you from diving into Terminal to use FFmpeg. That means you get fast and lossless editing for video, audio, subtitle and other media files.

Visit the website to see a long list of use cases that includes:
  • Cut out commercials from a recorded TV show (and re-format from TS to MP4).
  • Remove audio tracks from a file.
  • Extract music track from a video and cut it to your needs.
  • Add music to a video (or replace existing audio track).
  • Combine audio and video tracks from separate recordings.

While the app is indeed free, if you’re getting a lot out of it, consider downloading from the Mac App Store to support the developer.

It’s been awhile since I’ve done any video editing, but I seemed to manage OK with iMovie.
